Tips From The Bar

Almost every week, I give a prompt for poets.
Many of the  2011/2012 blog post titles are from the brain of Simone Beaubien.

The Clod Monet Prompt

Somehow, a prompt has gone missing from the Tips From The Bar timeline on Bostonpoetryslam.com.  Fear, not!

This week, we steal from Kythryne Aisling from Manchester's Slam Free or Die reading, who donated a fake Monet painting to the raffle because neither she, nor her soon to be former partner, wanted to take custody of it during the divorce.

This is sort of the opposite of the Kitchen Table Prompt, as this time, you are making the case for why you DON'T want to take  certain tangible or intangible thing from your crumbling relationship.

Charting Your Life By Other Peoples' Achievements

The day I was born, a tornado hit Birmingham, killing twenty-three people. Seventy-three people were killed when Southern Airways Flight 242 crashed in New Hope, Georgia. Magnetic Resource Imaging was first used successfully (my mother went back to college to become an MRI tech int he 1990s). The EPT pregnancy test went public the month I was born. Star Wars: A New Hope went public about a month later.

Find a public event, or a celebrity birthday, or a celebrity death day, or something besides your own birth that is significant to you , that happened on or around the time you were born. Now chart your life, in comparison to that event.

For example, if you were born the day Nevermind was released, how have you aged in comparison to that album?

The Not To Do List

Suuuuure, we all have bucket lists, and tasks we should really get to, and favors for friends who have done so much for us BUT we also have so many things that we need to stop doing or avoid for as long as possible. Be it, buying Grand Theft Auto Five the week before your wedding, buying your dog that adorable tiara you saw in the window at Petco, or writing that poem about how you, The Almighty Man, can save that poor woman using only the power of your penis.

This week, make a list of things that you are absolutely not to do at your latest convenience.

Serving Justice At Room Temperature

Erm. Well, the title pretty much says it all. Forget striking while the iron is hot, or waiting for vengeance to reach the core temperature of ice. Dispense your justice at the appropriate time for you, and the person to whom it is being served.
