Tonight mstegosaurus, theryk, J*Me, and I did battle with The girlsnqueers Team (featuring Ren Gender, Lani Radack, Laura Yan & Skian McGuire). As three gay men and one bi guy going into a traditionally all women venue, I figured we were fucked. No matter what we did we would have lost. Which was fine, we were there as a fundraiser, and i really enjoy listening to the four members of The Amazon team. In fact, I've never seen an Amazon Team that didn't impress the hell out of me. Still, I figured the decks were stacked. Especially when I heard four female judges, and one male.

I was wrong.

The judging was superbly consistent (and I'm saying this as a member of the losing team), partly due to the inspired hosting of realsupergirl. She may not have hosted a slam before, but she's a natural. Not the cookie cutter slam hosting that I'm often guilty of, she had a flair for making her inexperience work to her advantage. Brava.

The scores were unimportant. Every poet brought out fantastic material that wasn't necessarily a "greatest hit."

Thanks to girlsnqueers for putting the event together.

After words, mstegosaurus, theryk, morthsha and her very cute friend, Andrew, came over to Delistonkoawo, and we played a few rounds of Exquisite Corpses, which resulted in the following gems:

"Squishy - the taste of a compliment on a forked tongue"
"Ignorantly - the way you act around a campfire when you've had too much to drink
"Aaliya - a transgendered tightrope walking platypus with a lisp and lots of eucalyptis leaves"
"Cactus - a large body of water"

"Why do all these gay men keep sucking my cock?" "Because it's summer time."
"Why shouldn't I poke this?" "Because all things end, sometimes w/ a harpoon through them."

"My vagina is shabbily dressed for a change."
"The insane in Spain bomb many on the train"
"Area 51 is not a myth, it's a restaurant chain."

and the biggest stretch

According to our game the opposite of "Go banana!" is "Kill yourself - it's the only thing that makes sense."

Oh, and soon after we arrived at the house, The Boy (not My Boy, understand, I'm still very single) called. At 1 AM. That's an improvement over 3:45 AM. Maybe someday he'll call during daylight hours. Then I'll be able to tell what he looks like.

akamuuyou were a fantastic M.C. If I had a venue, I'd hire you.

I was sorry not to be able to go see the Amazon poets tonite at Lizard, but I need some non-poetry time. We've got gigs Mon-Thurs. Very bleurgh.

You and kaphine should come over for surrealist games sometime. I'd love tohave you.

akamuuCute boys are always appreciated. Particularly when they are funny and unantisocial. Y'all can come over any time.
