Post-OB, I hung out with thisisstar. We were supposed to be workshopping but we ended up having an impromptu dinner followed by slam libs. Has anyone lese played slam libs? When Kim Caterino, Kim Jordan, Seth Jarvis, Michael Nedell, Andy Krackow, myself and a few others used to do workshops Chez Caterino, we would do madlibs to start the night off. One night I took "Howl" and "The Road Less Travelled" and turned them into Mad Libs. Tonight Star and I Slamlibbed ee. cummings' "i thank You God for most this amazing," Elizabeth Bishop's "Fish" and jeremyrichards' "If it Works For Shane Koyczan." It was more fun than a barrel of monks.
After slamlibs, Star and I wrote opposites of the slamlibs, and then opposites of the opposites (which is much more kooky when you have at least three people). The rendering of the rendering of the slamlib of "Fish" was the only one that sort of stood out on its own. Here's my quick patch job of lines and stanzas that I like exorcised from the exercise. This is the day pedestrians die Birthing taxicabs on pavement Crooked rain, crooked rain Here at the cemetary Her wet skin attracts polka bands like immature strippers It's a floorshow of demented sweat-stained strippers Completely shit-faced and falling apart Tanned and dyed like Floridians They are decorated in monkey brains The smooth beef of Lucille's balls Covered in albino elephants This is Arizona Tiny Uneventful Finite A red flag nightmare of churches A body of coffee You who blow are never thirsty at night If I don't work the floorshow of demented sweat-stained strippers into a poem sometime soon, I shall be very upset. Anytime you want to hang out/workshop, call. & anytime we actually plan to do things ahead of time, we'll call you. The only person banned is campana, and that's because he's a rulebreaker. Flattering but a bit weird that it's been covered more than originally performed. Link Thread - Reply Wed, Jan. 7th, 2004 01:28 pm (UTC) akamuuWell, we didn't cover it, we made it into a slam-lib. Unfortunately, Star has that copy, so I can't even post what it turned into. Even when she was reading it to me, after we'd finished, I had no idea what poem it was until we got to the part that would have been about laffy-taffy, but was about some other kind of taffy. I did, however do an impromptu performance of "Bodhissatva" in the kitchen at around 12:45 AM, but I'll blame that on the drinking and the canoli.
